Conformation, directed self-assembly and engineered modification: some recent near surface structure determinations by grazing incidence small angle X-ray and neutron scattering
نویسنده
چکیده
Some recent developments in grazing incidence small angle scattering (GISAS) technique are reviewed. The emphasis is on the application of GISAS to elucidating the effects of geometrical surface constraint on self-assembled systems and the effect of modification of interfaces or molecular subassemblies to direct the formation of more complex structures. Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues
ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....
متن کاملSurface Induced Tilt Propagation in Thin Films of Semifluorinated Liquid Crystalline Side Chain Block Copolymers
The supramolecular self-assembly within a liquid crystalline block copolymer thin film with mesogenic semifluorinated alkyl side groups was studied using both grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and small angle scattering. Previous studies employing near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy indicated that mesogens at the film surface are tilted relative to the surface-normal. This ...
متن کاملConvective assembly of 2D lattices of virus-like particles visualized by in-situ grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering.
The rapid assembly of icosohedral virus-like particles (VLPs) into highly ordered (domain size > 600 nm), oriented 2D superlattices directly onto a solid substrate using convective coating is demonstrated. In-situ grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) is used to follow the self-assembly process in real time to characterize the mechanism of superlattice formation, with the ulti...
متن کاملGrazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering: application to the study of quantum dot lattices
The ordering of quantum dots in three-dimensional quantum dot lattices is investigated by grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS). Theoretical models describing GISAXS intensity distributions for three general classes of lattices of quantum dots are proposed. The classes differ in the type of disorder of the positions of the quantum dots. The models enable full structure determi...
متن کاملThe structure of real materials using x-ray and neutron scattering
Atomic and magnetic long-range order can be elucidated crystallographically from single crystals and powders. Uses of powder diffraction will be described in the next section. Short-range atomic order is obtained from diffuse scattering data from single crystals, powders, liquids and amorphous materials and developments in this area will also be described. There are many other applications whic...
